A One Woman Army!
Lauren Ritter
Lauren’s journey in sound design began in high school, where her Radio and Television teacher encouraged her to pursue her passion further and attend Columbia College Chicago. It was there that she discovered her true passion for sound design, immersing herself in the world of audio production and learning how sound could shape stories and emotions in film and multimedia. Her time at CCC allowed her to hone her technical skills while nurturing her creativity, giving her a solid foundation in the craft of sound.
Lauren was then granted the incredible opportunity to participate in the Semester in LA program at Columbia, which allowed her to spend her final semester of senior year in Los Angeles. This experience gave her the chance to follow her dreams and gain hands-on industry experience. During this time, she secured an internship with Monkeyland Audio, where she worked on a variety of projects, learned from renowned industry professionals, and further developed her expertise in audio post-production and sound design.
Post Graduation, Lauren has contributed sound design to several short films, collaborating with aspiring directors, writers, and producers as fellow Alumni from Columbia College Chicago. Working with these emerging talents, she refined her ability to create soundscapes that enhance the narrative and emotional depth of each project.
One of Lauren's most rewarding experiences was working on set of a short film as a sound recordist for Nodehaus Media’s “Shoot Shovel and Shut Up.” This hands-on role taught her how to capture high-quality audio in real-time while collaborating directly with filmmakers to ensure seamless integration of sound. It was a pivotal experience that broadened her technical and creative skills.
Her passion for sound also led her to explore voice-over production, where she worked closely with voice actors to craft engaging, expressive audio that complements performances and enhances storytelling.
Ongoing Learning & Future Goals
Even with all the experience Lauren has already gained in the industry, she’s not one to hit pause on her learning journey. She's always eager to grow, evolve, and stay ahead of the curve. Driven by her passion for video games — a love that has been with her since childhood — she is actively taking online courses in video game sound design. Her goal is to one day contribute to the sound design of AAA games, where she can create immersive and dynamic audio experiences that enhance gameplay and storytelling. Lauren is committed to staying at the forefront of the industry, constantly learning and evolving to bring innovative sound to the gaming world.
